Bacolod sisterhood
with Mexico studied

The establishment of a sisterhood pact between Bacolod City and a city in Mexico is now being studied by Philippine Ambassador to Mexico Justo Orros, Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia said.

Leonardia met with Orros when he attended the 4th World Water Forum in Mexico City on March 16 to 21.

Earlier, Leonardia said, exploratory talks had already been initiated in 2005 with Mexican Ambassador to the Philippines Hubbard Urea. Bacolod City already has sisterhood relationships with the cities of Long Beach in California, Keelong in Taiwan, Kamloops in Canada, and several cities in the Philippines.

Leonardia, who is the deputy secretary-general for the Visayas of the League of Cities of the Philippines, was a member of the country's official four-member delegation to the 4th World Water Forum in Mexico led by Environment Secretary Angelo Reyes.

Others were mayors Abraham Tolentino of Tagaytay City, Julian Resuello of San Carlos, Pangasinan and Mario Rogelio Antalan from the Island Garden City of Samal, Davao.

The forum sought to enable multi-stakeholders participation and dialog to influence water policy-making at a global level, and assure better living standards for people world-wide.*
