Dumaguete junk shop
owner told to move out
BY JUANCHO GALLARDE

A junkshop in a residential area in Barangay Daro, Dumaguete City, was ordered to move out and transfer to another location, for its failure to acquire a barangay clearance and a mayor's permit.

Barangay Kagawad Jovencio Tan Jr. said the barangay council has denied a clearance to the Rafal junkshop because it has become a "dumpsite" of all sorts of scrap materials, aside from a portion of the place being used as a display center of pigs for sale.

Council members also expressed concern about the spate of thieves involving scrap metals that eventually landed to the junkshop.

Records of the City Treasurer's Office, however, showed that the operator of the junkshop had paid the business taxes in advance.

But city legal officer Neil Ray Lagahit said it does not mean that the junkshop can already operate considering the lack of a barangay clearance or a mayor's permit.*JG
