YBAC skipping
summer cage tilt

BY CHRISTIAN IRL TAN

Defending champion Your Basketball Athletic Club-Emarken will skip the Negros Basketball Association-Mayor's Cup Summer Basketball Tournament that takes centerstage at 2:30 p.m. on April 8 at the Po Hang Gym of Bacolod Tay Tung High School.

In a meeting between team representatives and NBA officials at the Dodong's Fastbreak of Bascon Hotel Monday, YBAC president Jun Ballesteros said his association will not filed a team because it is difficult to gather the core players of the winning squad last year.

Squads that will vie for the crown are Ceres Liners, Toyota, Sipalay City Stingers and last year's runner-up JS Shell, which will be bannered by University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos.

The Troy Sarabia-mentored University of St. La Salle cagers will don the colors of Toyota, while a number of Colegio de San Agustin-Bacolod stalwarts will play for Ceres.

The games of the tournament, which will showcase a search for the Ms. NBA-Mayor's Cup 2006 during its opening program, will be played every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.

NBA president Oscar "Dodong" Bascon said he is still finalizing the availability of Filipino boxing icon Manny Pacquiao who has been invited to be the guest speaker during the opening. *CIT
