Cemetery owner sues
Dumaguete gov't
BY JUANCHO GALLARDE

The owner of the Dumaguete Memorial Park sued the city government for not accepting his business tax application this year.

Gabriel Amigo, owner of the memorial park, said he filed a complaint for consignation and effected consignation on Feb. 14 yet, claiming that the city had refused to accept the business tax he intends to file.

Estelita Bais, acting city treasurer and her assistant Cristina Merced, however, said the amount Amigo intends to pay does not correspond to the new tax ordinance levied on private cemeteries and memorial parks.

BY RENE GENOVE

A man believed to be high on illegal drugs shot his wife in their house in Brgy. Palaslan, Tayasan, Oriental Negros, recently.

The victim was identified as Lilibeth Callao, 23, and her husband as Eliajem Callao, 27, a mason.

Lilibeth, who landed at the Negros Oriental Provincial Hospital in Dumaguete City, admitted that her husband is hooked on illegal drugs. She said he got angry with her without any provocation, took a .38 caliber revolver and shot her in the chin. He escaped but was later arrested by responding policemen.

Reduced mayor's permit fee,
franchise ok'd today
BY JUANCHO GALLARDE

The Dumaguete City government will no longer grant another extension to the enforcement of the new mayor's permit fees among tricycle drivers plying the city routes.

A compromise agreement reducing the mayor's permit from P400 to P300 and the franchise fee from P860 to P760 was approved in the regular session of the Sanggunian last week, and is set to be approved on third and final reading today.

Mayor Agustin Perdices said several drivers have paid the fees in advance, contrary to earlier pronouncements from a few drivers who threatened to go on strike and to file for declaratory relief in court.
