Reduced mayor's permit fee,
franchise ok'd today
BY JUANCHO GALLARDE

The Dumaguete City government will no longer grant another extension to the enforcement of the new mayor's permit fees among tricycle drivers plying the city routes.

A compromise agreement reducing the mayor's permit from P400 to P300 and the franchise fee from P860 to P760 was approved in the regular session of the Sanggunian last week, and is set to be approved on third and final reading today.

Mayor Agustin Perdices said several drivers have paid the fees in advance, contrary to earlier pronouncements from a few drivers who threatened to go on strike and to file for declaratory relief in court.

Some drivers criticized the new rates for being too excessive, unjust and unfair.

The rate was raised from P27 to P400, a portion of which will serve as a trust fund for the livelihood programs of the drivers.*JG
