Two short-term skill-upgrading programs aimed at
boosting the tourism industry of Negros Occidental were launched
at the Sugarland Hotel in Bacolod City yesterday.
La Consolacion College-Bacolod and VMA Global College
launched their Asian Culinary Skills Enhancement and Kitchen Management,
and Housekeeping Training Management programs, respectively.
The launching was made in cooperation with the
German Technical Cooperation-Small and Medium Enterprise Development
for Sustainable Employment Program.

Enrique farmers' coop
avails of buy-back program
The San Enrique Multipurpose Cooperative Inc. of
San Enrique Negros Occidental is the first farmers cooperative
in the province to avail of the National Food Authority's Farmers
Option to buy back program, a press release from the NFA said
yesterday.
NFA provincial manager Gil Ibarra said that, under
the program, the farmers' cooperative organization has the option
to buy back the same volume of palay it delivered to NFA within
a period of six months.
The program aims to develop the farmers entrepreneurial
capability and encourage their involvement in food security and
stabilization, Ibarra said in the same press release.



BFAR
gives aid to
fishpond owners
Small fishpond owners in Negros Occidental will
receive aid from the Bureau of Fishery an Aquatic Resources in
the form of feeds in a bid to boost milkfish production in the
country, a press release from the BFAR said
Provincial BFAR chief Emmanuel Lobredo said each
fishpond owner identified by the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist,
will be entitled to get 30,000 worth of feeds per hectare. The
program is only limited to two hectares per pond owner, Lobredo
said.
He said the Modified Extensive Milk Fish Culture
program of the Department of Agriculture adopts a 'rollover scheme'
where beneficiaries return the amount lent to them so that other
fish farmers can also avail of the program.
