Merced to probe cops
linked to manhandling

Bacolod City police director, Senior Supt. Pedro Merced, yesterday said he will investigate the alleged involvement of four Bacolod police officers in manhandling a 16-year-old boy arrested for injuring a Bacolod resident at the Libertad Market in Bacolod City at about 1:45 a.m. Sunday.

The minor had claimed he was boxed and mauled by the arresting police officers causing him injuries, reports said.

On Sunday, Robert Canete, 33, married, of Brgy. Singcang-Airport reported to Police Precinct 6 that the minor, whose name is being withheld by the DAILY STAR, chased him and his companions while they were walking in the area, police reports said. Canete said the minor, believed to be under the influence of intoxicating liquor, and armed with a butcher's knife, stabbed him in his left leg.

Meanwhile, PO2 Eran and PO1 Germino of Terrano patrol 108 and PO1s Javier and Villar of Terrano patrol 110 also lodged a complaint against the minor for resisting arrest.

The police officers said they responded to a commotion at the Libertad Market and saw the minor chasing Canete and his companions with butcher's knife.

Upon apprehension, the policemen said the minor resisted but they overpowered him and endorsed him to Precinct 6. Duty investigator PO1 Arnel Deles of Precinct 6 yesterday said investigation showed the minor accidentally fell down on the ground while he was chasing Canete and his companions and this caused the injuries, not alleged manhandling by police officers.*DMG
