A list reportedly prepared by the Armed Forces of the Philippines
Central Command that contains names of 105 alleged top Communist
Party of the Philippines-New People's Army leaders in the Visayas,
including that of a journalist and officials of progressive groups
in Western Visayas, was released yesterday.
A fax copy of the six-page list that is supposed to cover the
first semester of 2005 was sent to the DAILY STAR by the office
of Anakpawis Rep. Rafael Mariano.
The list is dangerous because one of those named in it is Perseus
Geagoni, who has already disappeared, Fred Caņa of Karapatan Negros,
an alliance for the advancement of people's rights, said yesterday.
Geogoni, a National Federation of Sugar Workers organizer,
was reported missing in December by his family after he failed to
return home after going to the NFSW office in Bacolod City.
The military has denied involvement in his disappearance.
Article 3, an alliance of media groups in Negros Occidental,
is also calling for the removal of the name of DYEZ Aksyon Radyo
news director Julius Mariveles, from the list, and to assure his
safety and unhampered practice of his profession.
Bacolod Rep. Monico Puentevella yesterday said he will meet
with AFP chief of Staff Gen. Generoso Senga to ask him to remove
the name of Mariveles from the list.
Gov. Joseph Maraņon has also arranged a dialog between the
media and top military and police officials in Negros on the case
of Mariveles this morning at his office in the Capitol.
Col. Jerry Jalandoni, 303rd Infantry Brigade commander, who
assured Mariveles of his safety yesterday, said he has not seen
the list containing the alleged names of 105 top CPP-NPA leaders
and would like to see it so its authenticity can be validated.
The list, aside from containing the names of known CPP-NPA
leaders in the Visayas, also contains the names of Sigfred Deduro,
former Bayan Muna congressman, Richard Sarrosa - Bayan Negros chairman
and Kilusang Mambubukid ng Pilipinas official, and Jeffrey Celis
of Bayan Panay, Caņa pointed out.
"The list is considered a threat to the lives of the people
whose names are on it," he said.
Also on the list is the name of Raniel Cellon, alias Ka Kumpol,
who has been charged by the military with leading a group of New
People's Army rebels in harassing its Gatuslao detachment in Candoni
town Friday last week.
The name of Abraham Villanueva, one of the Camingawan 7 arrested
by the military in Kabankalan last year and later released on bail,
was also on the list.
Others on the list are Jessie Lepura, alleged head of the CPP-NPA
Southern Panay Front, Frank Fernandez of the rebel movement in Negros
and Cleofe Lagtapon.*CPG
