Baseball coach Narciso Jayme yesterday apologized for fielding an ineligible player during the regional Palaro in Roxas City and said he is ready to face the consequences of his action that had tainted the successful campaign of Negros in the Games.

And even if the Department of Education has yet to decide on the sanctions to be meted on him, Jayme appealed for a milder penalty, saying that teaching is his only source of income.

"I sincerely apologize for what I did and for the shame and scandal I have caused my players and the province," he said in his explanation letter to the Department Education yesterday.

The Visayas elimination round of the 10th Nestea Beach Volleyball Tournament unfolds today at the La Salle Greenhills sandcourts in Ortigas, Mandaluyong City.

Pairs from the University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos and University of St. La Salle are eyeing spots in the national finals scheduled May 6 in Boracay, Aklan.

Three-time national finalists Janus Dumaran and Neil Majillano banner the men's team of UNO-R, while Christine Dioso and Jenny Torres compose the Recoletos women's team.

Jungolf ace joins
nat'l training pool

Bacolod jungolf standout Mia Piccio has joined the national training pool under the tutelage of Bong Lopez, coach of Filipina LPGA standout Jennifer Rosales.

A veteran of many international junior golf tournaments, Piccio, a sophomore at St. John's Institute, is part of the pool of players that includes Bacoleņa Anya Tanpinco, Piccio's father-coach Ernesto told the DAILY STAR.

The other players in the pool are RP Open winner Debbie De Villa, Lora Roberto, Dottie Ardina, Cyna Rodriguez, Crystal Superal, Paulina Sotto and Bambie de la Paz.
