USLS, UNO-R BETS EYE BORACAY STINT
BY CHRISTIAN IRL TAN

The Visayas elimination round of the 10th Nestea Beach Volleyball Tournament unfolds today at the La Salle Greenhills sandcourts in Ortigas, Mandaluyong City.

Pairs from the University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos and University of St. La Salle are eyeing spots in the national finals scheduled May 6 in Boracay, Aklan.

Three-time national finalists Janus Dumaran and Neil Majillano banner the men's team of UNO-R, while Christine Dioso and Jenny Torres compose the Recoletos women's team.

Mark Sabusap and Marlon Luces don the colors of the USLS squad while the tandem of Ola Lopez and Danilyn Lequigan represent the La Salle women's squad.

Roger Banzuela, president of the Beach Volleyball Association of the Philippines, said the UNO-R players will have big chances to advance to the national finals because of their familiarity with each other.

The La Sallians will be the wildcards because, except for Lopez, they are first-timers in the tournament, Banzuela, who also mentors the USLS beach volleyball teams, said.

Challenging the Bacolod-based squads will be squads from the University of San Agustin, Iloilo Doctor's College, University of Iloilo, Colegio Dela Purisima, Foundation University, Southwestern University and University of Visayas.

The top four teams in the Visayas eliminations will qualify for the national tilt to face the best squads from Luzon and Mindanao. The semifinal round of the Nestea beach volleyball tournament will be staged from May 4 to 5. *CIT
