ONE ALREADY MISSING, KARAPATAN SAYS
BY CARLA GOMEZ

A list reportedly prepared by the Armed Forces of the Philippines Central Command that contains names of 105 alleged top Communist Party of the Philippines-New People's Army leaders in the Visayas, including that of a journalist and officials of progressive groups in Western Visayas, was released yesterday.

A fax copy of the six-page list that is supposed to cover the first semester of 2005 was sent to the DAILY STAR by the office of Anakpawis Rep. Rafael Mariano.

The list is dangerous because one of those named in it is Perseus Geagoni, who has already disappeared, Fred Caņa of Karapatan Negros, an alliance for the advancement of people's rights, said yesterday. moremoremore

Police taking CVOs
out of detachments
BY GILBERT BAYORAN

There is no need to reintroduce the takeover ordinance involving the Bacolod port because it will still be "killed" by the majority members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod, Bacolod Councilor Dindo Ramos said yesterday.

Ramos said he is also not attending the executive-legislative caucus being sought by the majority with Mayor Evelio Leonardia to ask him to clarify his two concepts of takeover. For what purpose, when the ordinance proposed by the minority already recommended the takeover of the port operation for purposes of rebidding the same to other investors or contractors? he asked.moremoremore

Guv denies pushing
people's initiative
BY CARLA GOMEZ

Gov. Joseph Maraņon yesterday said the provincial government had nothing to do with the people's initiative for Charter change campaign during the barangay assemblies in Negros Occidental Saturday, because it was supposed to be a non-partisan activity.

All I said is that those who want to support the people's initiative should not be stopped, while those who do not want to back it should not be forced to do so, Maraņon said.

We have heard the views of people in the urban areas on charter change, we should also listen to what those in the rural areas have to say, he said, adding that this will be reflected in the results of the barangay assemblies. moremoremore
