'Province should
use real name'
BY CARLA GOMEZ

It's Occidental Negros not Negros Occidental.

When Negros Island was divided, the two provinces were named "Occidental Negros" and "Oriental Negros," Gov. George Arnaiz said yesterday.

That is why, in his province they are using their original name, he said.

Arnaiz, who is governor of Oriental Negros, said if one goes to the Capitol in Bacolod City you will see that the name on the building is "Occidental Negros."

"I am not saying that you change your name but we have changed ours already," Arnaiz, who was in Bacolod yesterday, said.

Negros Occidental Gov. Joseph Marañon said "On our part we are beginning to correct that… that our province should be called Occidental Negros."

Vice Governor Isidro Zayco agreed, saying the charter when the two provinces separated says they should be called Occidental Negros and Oriental Negros.*CPG
