Pulupandan, St. Rose
spikers bag NOVA titles

Pulupandan and St. Rose of Lima School took different routes to the titles of their respective categories in the 12-Under tournaments of the 16th NOVA-NOCSF Age-Group Volleyball Championship at the University of St. La Salle College Covered Court in Bacolod City.

The Pulupandan spikers rallied past EELMS, 15-25, 25-21, 25-20, to rule the boys' division, while SRLS stunned top seed La Carlota City, 25-15, 25-20, to bring home the girls' crown.

La Consolacion Academy-Murcia placed third in the 12-Under boys' hostilities after absorbing an 18-25, 16-25 setback against EELMS, while the La Sallians finished fourth. USLS also gained second runner-up honors in the girls' play as St. Benilde School ended up as third runner-up.

In the 16-Under boys' category, powerhouse Pulupandan and Silay City arranged a championship showdown after scoring victories against different opponents over the weekend.

Pulupandan, which finished the elimination round with a 5-0 win-loss record, prevailed over La Salle, 26-24, 25-20, Saturday to earn the first finals berth, while the Silaynons downed three rivals to advance to the championship match.

Silay enjoyed a walkover victory over La Consolacion College-Main, before defeating University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos Talisay, 26-24, 25-21, Saturday and coming-from-behind against USLS, 13-25, 25-19, 25-14, yesterday to clinch the second finals slot.

The La Carlota and La Salle volleybelles forged a title encounter in the 16-Under girls' competitions after registering triumphs against separate opponents over the weekend.

La Carlota turned back Negros Occidental High School, 25-19, 25-16, to obtain the first championship spot, while USLS gained the second finals berth after scoring three straight wins.

The La Sallians crushed LCC-Main, 25-18, 25-18, and won via default over Silay Saturday, before rallying past NOHS, 19-25, 25-17, 25-15, yesterday.

The 14-Under boys' squad of Silay advanced to the finals after LCC-Main, 25-16, 25-17, Saturday to face the NOHS spikers who trounced La Carlota, 25-21, 25-16, Saturday and LCC-Main, 25-19, 25-23, yesterday.

In the 14-Under girls' category, St. Joseph's School-La Salle and ATLETA arranged a championship match after tallying wins against different rivals.

SJS-La Salle demolished St. John's Institute, 25-12, 25-13, to enter the finals, while the ATLETA volleybelles bested three opponents to gain a championship berth.

ATLETA outlasted Mansilingan Christian Academy, 25-12, 26-28, 25-13, and beat Silay, 25-22, 25-20, Saturday, before trampling SJI, 25-13, 27-25, yesterday. *CIT
