Conversion of dumpsite
into sanitary landfill eyed
BY RENE GENOVE

Dumaguete City Vice Mayor William Ablong said he plans to convert the Galing Pook Awardee, the Dumaguete City Dumpsite and Ecology Park, into a sanitary landfill to comply with the solid waste management law.

Ablong said he and city environment and natural resources officer Roger Clamonte will meet with Iloilo-based solid waste consultant Dr. Johannes Paul of the German Development Service, at Plaza Maria Luisa Sunday. He said the talks will be on the possibility of converting the dumpsite of the city in Brgy. Candau-ay into a sanitary landfill.

Ablong said the city is considering the option in case the plan for a Metro Dumaguete common sanitary landfill in Brgy. Tunga-tunga, Dauin, about 20 kilometers from Dumaguete City, fails to take off. "This is just an alternative site, if the Dauin plan will not push through," the vice mayor said.

He said that there is still no concrete development on the proposed common sanitary landfill in Dauin.*RG
