Officers of the Negros Occidental High School Alumni Association,
headed by Ricardo Yanson and Pompeyo Querubin, met with Negros Occidental
Gov. Joseph Maraņon Thursday to express their support to the decision
of the province to repossess the Paglaum Sports Complex in Bacolod
City.
They are supporting the stand of the province, Maraņon said.
Maraņon had earlier written to Fe Hidalgo, DepEd officer-in-charge,
formally demanding that the Department of Education return to the
province of Negros Occidental the ownership of the sports complex
within 15 days from receipt of his letter.
There has been no reply from the DepEd yet, he said.
Maraņon also said he hopes all the parties involved will agree
to their proposal so that the provincial government can have the
sports complex back and avoid a legal battle.
The Sangguniang Panlalawigan has already passed a resolution
granting Maraņon authority to take the necessary legal steps to
revoke its donation which came after reports that the DepEd has
failed to properly maintain it as required in the deed of donation
dated June 17, 1996.
The present management plan being proposed by the DepEd for
Paglaum is for the Philippine Sports Commission to take over.
Maraņon, however, said that they will not allow any other
private or government entity to run the Paglaum Sports Complex because
the provincial government can afford to develop and run it itself.*NLG
