The head coach of the Negros Occidental high school boys' baseball
appeared before the Department of Education yesterday, to explain
his side in the alleged fielding of an ineligible player in the
Regional Palaro in Roxas City.
But Supt. Eva Belicena of the Neg. Occ. Schools Division said
she told Narciso Jayme to put his explanation in writing as stated
in a memorandum she issued Thursday, and submit it on Monday.
Belicena refused to elaborate on her meeting with Jayme, who
coaches at the Dr. Antonio Lizares Memorial High School in Dos Hermanas,
Talisay.
Jayme's letter will be forwarded to Regional DepEd director
Victoriano Tirol Jr., for evaluation, she said. The regional office
will then decide as to who will give the mete on the erring coach.
Team trainer Mark Jerota, who was not included in the initial
line-up of the Negros secondary boys' baseball team, was fielded
by Jayme during the semifinals against Capiz in the regional Palaro.
The Capiz squad then lodged a complaint against the Negrenses
that was upheld by the Board of Jury, which also declared the forfeiture
of all Negros' games in the tournament.
The controversy erupted after the Negrenses' victory in the elementary
and secondary divisions of the regional meet that was also participated
in by contingents from Iloilo, Antique, Aklan and Guimaras.*CIT
