The blessing and inauguration of the D'Outlets, a
10-door commercial building located in front of Rolling Hills Memorial
Park, at Jesusa Heights Subdivision in Barangay Estefania, Bacolod
City, was held recently, a press release from the owners said.
The edifice is the newest business venture of
the Puentevella brothers Monico Jr., Brian, Claude, and Rocky, sons
of Bacolod Rep. Monico and Patching Puentevella, it also said.
The brothers said in the press release that they
decided to use the vacant lot owned by their family by putting up
a commercial building aimed at serving the needs of the residents
of Barangays Estefania, Granada and Alangilan, the press release
added.*

Silay ends celebration
of women's month
Hundreds of women from 16 barangays, government agencies
and non-government organizations in Silay City, Negros Occidental
will join the closing of the Women's Month celebration on the theme
"Kababainhan sang Silay: Nagahulag para sa Katin-aran sang Dakbanwa
kag Panimalay," in the city, today, a press release from the Silay
Sanggunian said yesterday.
The participants will march at 8:30 a.m. today
and will hold a solidarity program at the Kansilayan Gym, and, at
2 p.m., join various ballgames, and cheering and modern dance contests.
At the solidarity program, officers of the Silay
City Women's Council led by Emma Mondragon will be inducted by Anne
Marie Depasucat, member of the board of trustees of the Provincial
Council for Women, the press release said.
Other officers are Tessie Juanga - vice president,
Raquel Dumrique - secretary, Gemma Infante - treasurer, Rebecca
Culi - auditor, and Jocelyn Tayo- PIO.
Day Care workers will then give a dance number
to be followed by the awarding of the regional finalist in the Search
for Outstanding Barangay Tanod, Noemi Catalan, by the Department
of Interior and Local Government.
The press release added that the celebration is a
joint program of the Office of Silay Mayor Carlo Gamban and Councilor
Marie June Pavillar-Castro, chairperson of the committee on women
and family, and in coordination with the 16 barangays through the
Silay Association of Kagawad chairpersons of the committee on women
and family.*

reports missing dog
A Bacolod doctor reported the loss of his 6-month-old
dog named Trixie, early yesterday.
Dr. Edwin Miraflor Jr., in his letter to the
DAILY STAR, sought the help of those who may have found Trixie,
which he said was a gift to his 3-year-old daughter on her birthday
last November.
He added that they had searched all around for
the dog, and already filed a police blotter reporting its loss,
to no avail.
Posters have been printed to help find Trixie
in exchange for a generous reward, he also said.

Group art exhibit opens
A group art exhibit called "Still Alive" of Negrense
art group Signus will open at 6 p.m. today, and will run until April
10, from 2 to 9 p.m., Mondays through Saturdays, at the Gallery
Orange, Orange Building, Lopue's Mandalagan Annex, in Bacolod City,
a press release from the group said.
The exhibit signifies the prevailing signs of
the times and is fast becoming a strengthening voice of the local
art scene, the press release also said.
The eight exhibiting artists are Edmund Bacia,
30, a product of the La Consolacion College-Bacolod, with his oil
on canvas; Neil Benavente, 35, whose works are in oil on wood tiles,
and other media such as paint, clay, a stage or a frame of film;
Joe Geraldo, 36, who displays a very high level
of skill in his terra cotta relief and communicates best with his
visual outputs; Jovito "Otay" Hecita, 37, who has acrylic on canvas
to show an evolving impressionist; Alden Macazar, 42 - who shows
strong figurative texture in his terracotta sculptures;
Tristram Miravalles, 22 - who wields an emotional
brush in oil on canvas; Ramon de los Santos, 50 - who applies acrylic
on canvas in a most arresting manner; and John Arceo, 35, a television
host who works on a series of photo impressions on insanity, the
press release also said.
