Chokepoints put up in city
BY JUANCHO GALALRDE

Dumaguete City police chief, Supt. Deonardo Carlos, said the putting up of "choke points" in different areas in the city is intended to address violations of traffic laws and regulations, and give warnings before the issuance of temporary operators permits.

He added that it is part of a corrective measure that gives motorists time to comply with the requirements of law.

If the warnings are ignored, the next time they are apprehended, TOPs and fines will be issued, Carlos said.

Meanwhile, the city police is revising its deployment plan to maximize the duty hours of the present police force.

Carlos said the lack of personnel is a nationwide predicament, so he will have to make do with available resources.

Carlos had gotten the support of the police in giving extra two hours for their daily assignments, for beat patrols, especially during busy hours, and during closing time of businesses in the evening.

He also welcomed the P20,000 reward offer of Task Force 24 to persons who can give information leading to the identification of hold-up and robbery suspects.

Carlos said, such reward money must be released as soon as the information is given to avoid a negative impact on the police.*JG
