MANILA - The Philippine government yesterday revised its 2005
trade deficit to $6.163 billion, much higher than the $3.903 billion
it earlier announced.
The National Statistics Office said it had changed the trade
deficit figure due to the adoption of a new methodology of compiling
import statistics and the addition of more import documents.
Under the new figures, imports in 2005 have been revised to $47.418
billion from the original estimate of $44.9 billion while export
figures were raised to $41.255 billion from $41.006 billion, the
NSO said in a statement.*AFP
