PNP shootfest starts in Silay
BY GILBERT BAYORAN

About 300 gun enthusiasts, both lawmen and civilians, will participate in a three-day shootfest sponsored by the Philippine National Police in Brgy. Balaring, Silay City starting today.

Supt. Celestino Guara yesterday said the staging of shootfest dubbed as the "Mayor's Cup" is to recognize the support extended by Mayor Carlo Gamban, Vice-Mayor Francis Jay Jalandoni and members of the Silay City Council, among others, to the police. Guara said gun club members from Iloilo and Dumaguete cities also signified their intention to participate in the shootfest, which is expected to end on March 26.

The "top gun" will receive a .45 caliber pistol as prize, aside from a trophy, while shooters included in the top 32 and 16, respectively, will get trophies and P1,000 in cash.

Expected to attend the 8 a.m. opening ceremony today at the PNP training facility and target range are Senior Supt. Charles Calima, provincial police director of Negros Occidental, Supt. Rene Aspera, 6th RMG director, Gamban, Jalandoni and members of the Silay City Council.*GPB
