A memorandum asking baseball coach Narciso Jayme 72 hours to explain
in writing the reason for his alleged fielding of an ineligible
player during the regional Palaro last week in Roxas City was issued
yesterday by Supt. Eva Belecina of the Negros Occidental Schools
Division.
The deadline will lapse on Sunday since Jayme, who coached
the Negros secondary boys' baseball squad, received the memorandum
only yesterday, but Belecina said he will most likely be given until
Monday to submit his explanation.
She said the possible sanction on the erring baseball mentor
from Dr. Antonio Lizares Memorial High School in Dos Hermanas, Talisay,
will be determined after a careful evaluation of his explanation.
Jayme fielded team trainer Mark Jerota, who was not included
in the initial line-up to the Palaro screening committee, in the
semifinals against Capiz. The Capizeņos lodged a complaint that
was later upheld by the Board of Jury.
In a separate interview, multi-titled softball coach Hernando
Posadas of Domingo Lacson High School, yesterday alleged that Jayme
might have inserted Jerota in the roster as a sign of "protest"
against the lenient screening of Iloilo athletes, compared to the
players of other delegations in the six-province regional meet.
But Belecina said: "A mistake can not be corrected with another
mistake".
"There is always a better way to solve these kinds of problems.
We do not tolerate the actions of Jayme," Belecina added.
The controversy involving Jayme smeared an otherwise successful
campaign in the Palaro, where Negros athletes swept the overall
titles in the elementary and secondary divisions. *CPT
