Comply with wage
law, 3 firms told
BY ROMY AMARADO

The Department of Labor and Employment - Dumaguete District is set to issue an order directing at least three establishments in Oriental Negros and Siquijor to comply with the minimum wage law.

Jose Ogang, head of the local DOLE office, disclosed that of the five establishments under investigation by his office, three were found to have failed to give their workers the minimum wage.

Ogang refused to identify the establishments, but said they are involved in the food business and a Cable TV in Dumaguete, and a security agency in Siquijor.

Ogang said about 60 workers will benefit from the order. He, however, said his office will prepare the draft order but the regional director has to sign it. Ogang said his office conducted the inspection after some workers of the three establishments lodged a complaint for alleged underpayment.

He said his office is very willing to help the workers. "We would like to be pro-active. If there are complaints we will try to resolve it without going into a full-blown trial," Ogang added.*RA
