'Disparity in gov't wages
causes demoralization'
BY JUANCHO GALLARDE

The disparity in the wages of government employees and those of government-owned-and-controlled corporations has caused too much demoralization among the ranks in the government service, Senate Majority Floor Leader Francis Pangilinan said.

"It's about time we review the salary standardization law because of the growing exemptions, to the prejudice of lowly-paid employees," he said.

Pangilinan who was in Oriental Negros recently, recalled that a bill was filed in the Senate for the review of the salary standardization law, but it is waiting for the version of the House of Representatives, it being an appropriation measure.

Pangilinan said there is a big difference in the wages of other government workers and those of GOCCs and government financial institutions such as the Government Service Insurance System and the Social Security System.

Meanwhile, department heads of the Oriental Negros provincial capitol, including members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan, attended a two-day team building workshop that started yesterday in Bacolod City.

The activity is a sequel to the executive-legislative agenda formulated two years ago, and is aimed at developing camaraderie among the employees and make them more responsive in extending services to the public.*JG
