The Land Transportation Office in Bacolod City is targeting a
higher income of P160 million this year, from only P119 million
in 2005, the Philippine Information Agency reported yesterday.
LTO's revenues are derived from penalties, registrations and
other fees and 5.5 percent of the amount go to the Local Road Fund
while 7.5 percent, to the Traffic Safety Supervision Board.
The Bacolod office posted a 27.3 percent increase in its collection
from penalties - P4.7 million in 2005 from only P3.6 million in
2004.
It registered 52,253 motor vehicles last year, 10 percent
higher than the previous year. Bacolod City has 1, 451 registered
sports utility vehicles.
Norman Saril, chief transportation regulatory officer, said
they expect a motor vehicle registration of 70,000 this year.
At least, 7,000 were registered from January to February alone.
Saril said that 48 percent of the vehicles registered in Western
Visayas are in Negros Occidental.*
