A legacy of love
It was one of those happenings where love was everywhere. Seldom
have we seen a more fun, poignant and memorable evening than the
grand 75th birthday celebration of Rosita Montanez, who was feted
by her loving children on her natal day. A Thanksgiving Mass was
held for this deeply religious lady at the Redemptorist Church,
which was attended by family and close friends. In the evening,
the La Proa Main at L'Fisher Hotel was filled with guests who came
dressed to the nines, the ladies' jewelry glittering under the lights
of the elegant chandeliers. On hand to welcome the guests (some
came all the way from the USA and Australia), were Rosita's children
and in-laws: Joe and wife Paching, Elizabeth and hubby Tony Maramara,
Butch, Rosemarie and hubby Jean-Louis Charamnac.
When everyone was seated at their tables, the lights dimmed and
the strains of the song, "Celebration" filled the air as the celebrator
appeared, looking positively fabulous in her gold and white gown,
amid cheers and applause (What an entrance!). Guests feasted on
the superb dinner which was specially selected for the occasion
(the chocolate truffle dessert was to-die-for!), complemented by
sparkling red wine which flowed all night. Rosita's son, Joe, was
the emcee for the program which featured a video presentation on
the life of this wonderful woman, who has won many hearts through
her gracious and generous ways.
It was a touching trip down memory lane showing a young beautiful
Spanish mestiza on the threshold of life and her happy marriage
to her beloved Libing which gave them their lovely, adoring kids.
We could see how the fashions evolved - from the hairdos and clothes
of the 50's down to the 90s. During his tribute, Fr. Brian Gore
even mentioned having a photo of Rosita in a daring "above-the-knee"
outfit! He spoke of the many years that they have known each other
- from the dark days of martial law when she was one of those whose
kindness sustained them all those years. Lawyer Frankie Cruz expounded
on this phase of the life of this brave lady whose indomitable spirit
was an inspiration to others. The children and grandchildren lovingly
spoke of the generosity and unconditional love of their "Mama Sit"
(as she is affectionately called). Her deep concern for others has
been her legacy for all those who know and love her.
Another highlight of the program was the musical numbers given
by Joe's former classmates, the L-men who wowed the crowd with their
songs. Son-in-law Tony Maramara was a revelation as he played the
guitar and sang "Mrs. Brown You've Got Two Lovely Daughters". The
celebration continued as Rosita led the ballroom dancing (which
is one of her favorites). Soon the dance floor was filled as everyone
let their hair down and danced all night! Wotta night! HAPPY BIRTHDAY,
ROSITA!*
