GSIS
scholars increase
The Government Service Insurance System increased
the number of its college scholars from 48 to 120 starting this
school year, and has made the scholarship program easier for applicants,
a press release from the Philippine Information Agency said.
The changes in the scholarship program will not
entail any additional expense on the part of the state pension despite
the number of beneficiaries, GSIS president and general manager
Winston Garcia, said in the press release.
The press release also said that the GSIS removed
the competitive examinations which used to be the basis for selecting
scholars, and the savings it generated from administering the exams
is used to support more scholars.
Garcia also said in the press release that scholarship
slots are now determined by a raffle where all active GSIS members
may participate by filling out an application form, and submit it
to the GSIS office or through an accredited GSIS liaison officer.
Inquiries about the scholarship program may be made
with all GSIS branches and offices. The deadline for submission
of application forms is at 5 p.m. on April 21, the press release
added.*
