De Castro arriving
BY CARLA GOMEZ

Vice President Noli de Castro will be in Murcia, Negros Occidental, Friday morning for the launching of a Pag-IBIG funded housing program for government employees to be implemented by the town government in coordination with Gawad Kalinga, Mayor Esteban Coscolluela said yesterday.

Coscolluela said his proposal for Pag-IBIG to fund the project in Barangay Salvacion, Murcia, is being adopted as a program that will also be made available to other interested local governments.

Murcia will be the first recipient with Pag-IBIG making P20 million available to the town, he said.

De Castro, chairman of the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council, Friday will visit the housing site for government employees named the "Murcia Kabayan Housing Program." Coscolluela said the GK program for the poorest of the poor in Murcia is building houses at P60,000 each.

The houses to be built for the government employees will cost P120,000 payable over 20 years minimum with amortization not to exceed P1,000 a month, he said.

He said he asked the GK to help so there will be a spiritual, education and livelihood component to the program.

The P20 million Pag-IBIG fund will cover 168 employees but can be stretched to 200, he said.

The housing program will be open to the Murcia municipal government employees and later to the police and fire department employees, Department of Education workers and barangay officials, he said.

To prevent recipients from selling their houses the absolute transfer of ownership will be made upon separation from government service in good standing, Coscolluela said.

This way we will ensure that the housing program for government employees will have served its purpose, he added.*CPG .
