Fiesta in Ilog to start today

The four-day annual fiesta in honor of Senior Sto. Niņo in Ilog, Negros Occidental will start today with a grand parade and cooperative day, a press release from the town government said.

Public and private schools will hold a cultural extravaganza tonight, and for tomorrow there will be the Manika Pa Cute Gay Boxing Competition, Gay Fantasy Parade and the SMB Nite with live band, it also said.

To be held Friday are the "Eat all You Can" Talaba Festival and concert of the Enchi and Coming Soon bands.

Highlight of the celebration will be the Kisi-Kisi Dance Competition sponsored by the Municipal Tourism Council headed by Joyce Alvarez to be participated in by 11 barangays. In the evening, live band performances will be presented by the Empire Groove Band from Cebu City and the Tribu Dos of La Carlota City, Negros Occidental, the press release said.

The town is headed by Mayor John Paul Alvarez and actually participating in by Rep. Genaro Rafael Alvarez (6th district, Neg.Occ.), Sangguniang Bayan Member Mark John Vargas, and other officials, the press release added.*

School to offer
SPED program

The College of Education and the Recoletos de Bacolod Graduate School of the University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos in Bacolod City will offer the Bachelor of Elementary Education, major in Special Education, and Master of Arts in Education, major in Special Education, for school year 2006-2007, a UNO-R press release said.

The program is a response of the school to the global demand of teachers focusing on Special Education, the press release said.

The College of Education of UNO-R is accredited by the Philippine Accrediting Association of Schools, Colleges and Universities and recognized as one of the top performing schools in the country in the August 2005 Licensure Examination for Teachers, it added.

It was ranked second in the regional and 6th in the national level in the 2004 Licensure Examination for Teachers, the press release also said.

NPC tour today

A tourism familiarization tour in La Castellana, Negros Occidental will be held by the officers and members of the Negros Press Club, tomorrow, a press release from the club said.

Activities are the cable car joy ride in Sitio Old Fabrica, Brgy. Cabagna-an where participants will view the crater of Mt. Kanlaon, bird-watching, panoramic viewing of the southwestern part of Negros, eco-trail at Mt. Kanla-on Natural Park, visit to RAM pump in Brgy. Puso and Tikoy-tikoy Spring Resort, presentation of the best practices of the local government of La Castellana, visit to the mini-hydro plant and hanging bridge walk, the press release added.*
