Negrense shuttlers rule
elementary hostilities
BY CHRISTIAN IRL TAN

Negros swept the five championships at stake in the elementary boys and girls' competitions of the 2006 Western Visayas Regional Athletics Association Meet that closed curtains yesterday at the Villareal Stadium in Roxas City Capiz.

Nikki Therese Servando powered her partnership with Mary Joy Fernandez to cap the Negrenses' domination by snatching the crown of the elementary girls doubles' category.

Servando, a Grade 5 student of Trinity Christian School, and Fernandez of Cadiz East Elementary School posted a resounding 15-1, 15-4 victory over their Aklan rivals Jane Francisco and Sara Mae Noble in the finals to take the title.

Negrenses Ruperto Estoy and Christian Pavia ripped the tandem of Dyland Arroyo and Ben Johnson, 15-4, 15-3, to snare the elementary boys doubles' championship. JC Clarito and Keann Glenn Taclas of Iloilo settled for second runner-up honors.

Precious Mae Ballenas added another title to the coffers of Negros after beating Ma. Jamaica Espinosa in the finals of the elementary girls' competitions, while Negros standout Mark Timothy Arruz hauled the elementary boys' gold after scoring a win against Art Vale Galero of Antique in the championship showdown. The Negrenses also reigned supreme in the elementary mixed doubles' hostilities. *CIT
