A workshop on paper bag and paper coffin-making will
be conducted by the Zonta Club of Bacolod led by Belen Elizalde
from March 27 to April 1 at the Federation of Women's Center beside
the Provincial Capitol Multi-Purpose Hall, in Bacolod City, a press
release from the group said yesterday.
Registration fee is P1,200 and P200 for the
kit, it said.

lauds Peace
Corps volunteer
A Peace Corps volunteer whose assignment in Kabankalan
City, Negros Occidental has just ended received a plaque of appreciation
from the city government yesterday.
Robert Kent, as well as his fiancée and fellow
volunteer, Rasa Siminkas, who assisted him in some of his projects,
received the award at the program during the flag ceremony at the
Kabankalan city hall, a Kabankalan government press release said.
Mayor Pedro Zayco Jr., with Vice Mayor Raul Rivera,
city agriculturist Nemesio Cañete and tourism officer Virgilio Gerongani,
presented the award. Kent has been assigned in Kabankalan since
2003 helping in the formulation and implementation of Republic Act
9003 or the Solid Waste Management Act, and in the production of
green charcoal from dried sugarcane trashes and leaves, the press
release said.
Siminkas has helped work for the approval of
the proposed marker to be constructed by the National Commission
for Culture and the Arts in Brgy. Carol-an, and the putting up of
a mural on the history of Kabankalan City to be displayed at its
museum and showroom, it also said.
Mayor Zayco lauded the efforts and assistance of
Kent and Siminkas in working on these projects, the press release
added.*

Sipalay
tops Hiyas
ng Turismo text votes
The city of Sipalay, in Negros Occidental garnered
a total of 14,209 text votes to rank first as of yesterday in the
Hiyas ng Turismo search of the Department of Tourism, a Capitol
press release said.
The program is a nationwide search for new and
undiscovered tourist destinations being sponsored by the Women in
Travel-Manila, in cooperation with the DoT, it also said. Second
to Sipalay in the number of text votes was Cavinti in Laguna with
5,182 votes, followed by Sacobia in Pampanga with 2,145 text votes,
the press release said.
The text voting comprises 30 percent of the total
score with the final result of the 70 percent judging to be announced
on March 28.
The voting was done from Feb. 16 to March 16.
Other finalists to the search are Hamiguitan (Davao)
- fourth, Magdalera (Laguna) - fifth, Sibang (Cagayan Valley) -
sixth, Bugang (Antique) - seventh, Rosales (Pangasinan) - eighth,
and Apo (Misamis Oriental) - ninth, the press release added.*
