SAGAY CITY -- The performers from Brgy. Poblacion II won the grand
prize in the 10th Sinigay sa Sagay Streetdancing Competition here
yesterday afternoon.
The competition was one of the highlights of the 10th Sinigayan
Festival held from March 15 to 19.
The winning group, which carried the theme, "Kasanagan sa
Kadagatan," bested 11 other entries to bring home the P50,000 cash
prize.
First runner-up was the cluster (Muro-Dagat) of Brgys. General
Luna and Himogaan Baybay while second runner-up was Brgy. Paraiso
(Paraiso sa Dagat). Each group received P30,000 and P20,000, respectively.
The special award for Best in Parade Props went to Brgy. Poblacion
I (Kabuhi sa Idalum sa Dagat); Best in Festival Float, Poblacion
II; Best in Festival Costume, Brgys. Puey and Maquiling; and Best
in Sinigayan Float Queen, Brgys. Gen. Luna and Himogaan Baybay.
On Saturday, the tribe from Sagay National High School won
first place in the Mardi gras competition.
The participants, who were teachers and government employees,
donned colorful costumes, headdresses and masks while dancing to
the tune of "Chopeta."
Second place was the group of City Government Employees while
third place, Bato National High School.
The Best in Costume award also went to Sagay National High
School.
SINIGAYAN QUEEN
Meanwhile, April Rose Garcia was crowned Sinigayan Queen 2006
during a glittering pageant night held at Sagay City Public Plaza.
The 19-year-old Garcia, who was also adjudged Best in Swimwear
and Best in Sinigayan Costume, won a P15,000 cash prize.
Named first princess was Gea Bacomo, 18, who received the
award for Best in Production Number while second princess was Meira
Veni Montero, 18, who was chosen Miss Coca-Cola Body.
Awarded Best in Talent, Best in Sinigayan Gown and Miss Photogenic
was Joy Ann Empleo; Miss Congeniality, Ramerose Mendoza; and Miss
Negros Navigation, Mary Ann Estrella.*NLG
