Join barangay
assembly, DILG urges

The regional director of the Department of Interior and Local Government in Western Visayas is calling on all barangay officials to join the first barangay assembly this year, this coming Sunday, a DILG press release said.

Evelyn Trompeta, DILG regional director, urged all barangay officials to notify their constituents of the assembly which is being held in compliance with Republic Act 7160, or the Local Government Code of 1991, and other DILG memorandum circulars, it also said. The bi-annual assembly will take up the semestral report of the Sangguniang Bayan, annual accomplishment and financial report of the barangay, plan of action on governance, gender and development, and its preparedness and public safety plans to mitigate the effects of the impending La Niņa phenomenon, the press release said.

Trompeta said she hopes there will be more barangays conducting the assembly because in October 2005, only 65 percent of the barangays complied with the directive, the press release added.*
