'Tricycle drivers
also selling flesh'
BY ALEX PAL

Dumaguete City Mayor Agustin Perdices has bared the existence of an underground prostitution and possibly pedophile ring in Oriental Negros that he said is being facilitated by tricycle drivers who double as pimps.

In the first meeting of the Anti-Indecency Board at the City Hall last Tuesday, Perdices pointed to some tricycle drivers who hang out late at night in front of the Why Not? Restaurant, a popular hangout for foreigners, which is beside the Perdices-owned Mamia's restaurant.

Perdices said he has been told that many of these tricycle drivers act as pimps for foreign customers.

The Dumaguete City Water District is limiting the output of two water reservoirs in the city following a study conducted by the solid waste consultant of the Oriental Negros government.

DCWD general manager Esperatu Dicen welcomed the recommendations of Dr. Martin Falke to address the possible ground water contamination at the present garbage dumpsite in Barangay Candau-ay.

Dicen had earlier suggested the construction of a leachate canal surrounding the dumpsite and treat the garbage before releasing the water to the Banica River. .

The Oriental Negros government will embark on a P50 million computerization program for its hospital system.

The Sangguniang Panlalawigan, in its regular session last Thursday, authorized Gov. George Arnaiz to negotiate in behalf of the province for a loan with any government banking facility. In his letter to the SP requesting for the authority, Arnaiz indicated that the program consists of installation of database management system for the Indigent Health Program of the province which costs about P21.7 million, automation of the hospital management information system with an estimated cost of P13.5 million, and enrollment of additional beneficiaries to the Philhealth Indigency Program.
