Businesswoman
loses P2M in jewelry

A businesswoman in Silay City yesterday reported that she lost about P2 million worth of jewelry and P12,000 in cash to three unidentified persons who allegedly broke into her residence at Antilla Subdivision, Brgy. 4, Silay City, between 1 and 2 a.m. yesterday.

Aida Guadarama Suluta, 68, widow of a retired Silay policeman, yesterday told the police she discovered her black bag already in the her balcony at about 6 a.m. yesterday. Its content, including money and sets of jewelry, some of them heirlooms, were gone, SPO4 Leo Canag, chief of the Theft and Robbery Section of Silay PNP, yesterday told the DAILY STAR in a phone interview.

Police investigation showed the suspects gained entrance through an unlocked window of the house. Canag said they recovered cardboards believed used by the suspects to open the lock of Suluta's room and steal the bag from her dresser.

The stolen jewelry, some of them said to be antiques, included a 48-stone bracelet, a set of heart-shaped ring and earrings, a set of princess cut earrings, 51-stone heart shape pendant, a diamond ring, police reports said.

Suluta, who owns a textile and ready-to-wear business at the Silay public market, is also engaged in buying and selling of jewelry, Canag said. Canag said the robbers must be professionals because they used simple yet effective devices and no signs of forcible entry were found.*DMG
