A suspect in the killing of a 33-year-old coconut tuba gatherer
in Brgy. Don Esperedion Villegas denied ambushing the victim in
Vallehermoso, Oriental Negros.
Priscillo Ceniza appeared before the Provincial Prosecutor's Office
yesterday to face charges for the killing of Vicente Binag, 33,
married of Upper Brgy. Don Esperidion Villegas, in the town. Ceniza
told the prosecutor's office that, contrary to the witnesses' statements,
he was not in the barangay at the time of the killing.
The suspect is now detained at the Vallehermoso police station.
Investigations showed that Binag was on his way home near
noon last Tuesday after collecting tuba when a bonneted man wearing
a jacket ambushed and shot him dead.
The victim's cousin who claimed to have seen the incident said,
that after shooting Binag, the assailant walked calmly away towards
a wooded area and disappeared. Ceniza was arrested hours later after
he was identified as the alleged killer.*RG
