Drug suspects nabbed
BY JUANCHO GALLARDE

Three family members were nabbed Tuesday in a drug buy-bust conducted by the Task Force 24 in Bangcolotan, Zamboanguita, Oriental Negros.

Elements of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, National Bureau of Investigation, provincial police office, and Dumaguete city police responded to a report of massive peddling of marijuana in the area, which resulted in the arrest of the suspects.

A police poseur-buyer bought 28 sticks of marijuana cigarets at P10 each and two more were recovered from the suspects by apprehending officers. Cash believed to be proceeds of the illegal trade was also seized. Charged with violation of Sections 5 and 11, Article II of Republic Act 9165, otherwise known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, were Jose Yap, 71, his daughter, Juvy, and son Joel.

In an interview, the three admitted to have been selling drugs for more than a year because of poverty. Jose said he is aware of the consequences of the illegal act but was forced to sell drugs to sustain their daily needs.*JG
