NBI probes death at clinic
BY CARLA GOMEZ

A resident of Hinigaran has asked the National Bureau of Investigation to conduct an investigation on the death of her son at the Hinigaran Emergency Clinic recently.

Lolita Villanueva Espada said her son, Jessie Espada, 22, of Barangay Bag-as, Hinigaran, died at the clinic on March 4, NBI Bacolod agent in-charge Philip Pecache said.

The patient died from septicemia after being brought into the clinic with fever and vomiting, Pecache said.

"However, we discovered that the patient did not inform the doctor that he was suffering from abdominal pain and had self-medicated," Pecache said.

"We only found out Tuesday about the abdominal pains during the autopsy," he said.

"Self-medication can be dangerous especially if the doctor attending to the patient is not told about it," he said.

"The abdominal pain was relieved by the self-medication but the cause of the pain, that was the rupture of intestines, was still there," he said.

That is why the patient did not complain of the pain when he was brought to the doctor, Pecache added.*CPG
