The area of public lands awarded to landless farmers in the municipality
of Valencia in Oriental Negros has increased to 169 hectares and
the number of beneficiaries reached 484.
This was after the recent distribution of certificates of
land ownership awards to 64 farmers-beneficiaries by the Department
of Agrarian Reform, held at Valencia municipal hall.
The program was attended by Mayor Rodolfo Gonzales, municipal
and barangay officials, and representatives from the DAR provincial
office led by DAR Assistant Secretary Kashmir Leyretana.
Presidential Proclamation No. 1413 awards public lands to
the farmers tilling public lands.
Gonzalez, in his brief message during the ceremony, challenged
the beneficiaries to make their newly-acquired lands productive
and to make sure that they pay their annual real property taxes.
Gonzales thanked DAR for helping the farmers own the land they
have been tilling for years.*RG
