Senator Manny Villar will be the guest of honor and commencement
speaker at the graduation exercises of the two main campuses of
the Negros Oriental State University in Dumaguete City on Sunday.
Villar will speak before 1,305 candidates for graduation in
rites to be held at the NORSU Campus II in Brgy. Bajumpandan, Dumaguete.
Villar is also the sponsor of the Sipag at Tiyaga Caravan Kaalaman,
a livelihood training program that provides skills and inspiration
to people to help them start their own businesses.
The caravan travels all over the country conducting livelihood
seminars that are consistently and widely attended and appreciated.
Reymil Cadapan, NORSU registrar, said that, as of March 2,
the estimated number of candidates for graduation for the entire
NORSU system in Negros Oriental is 2,770.
Outside of the two main campuses in Dumaguete City with 1,305
candidates for graduation, Bais Campus I has 422, Bais Campus II
- 225, Guihulngan Campus - 332, and Siaton Campus, 104.
The commencement speaker at the graduation rites at the Bais
Campus I and II yesterday was Enrique Garcia, regional director
of the Commission on Higher Education in Cebu City.
For Bayawan-Sta. Catalina Campus today, the speaker will be
Mayor German Sarana of Bayawan City, Oriental Negros, and for Siaton
Campus, Rep. Herminio Teves (3rd district, Oriental Negros) tomorrow.
The speaker for the Guihulngan Campus Saturday will be Victoria
Dinopol, NORSU vice president for Academic Affairs, and Dean of
the Graduate School.
Meanwhile, the Department of Education is under strict orders
not to ask for contributions from graduating students in public
schools.
DepEd Supervisor I Dr. Virgilio Adiong reiterated the directive
to division superintendents all over the province.
Daliong stressed that school uniforms will do during commencement
exercises and graduation rites, unless, decided by the parent-teacher
associations in the schools.*RG
