The National Food Authority in Negros Occidental has allocated
P26 million to start its sugar procurement operations this week
in line with President Arroyo's order for NFA to intervene to provide
consumers access to reasonably priced sugar, its provincial manager
Gil Ibarra said yesterday.
The NFA will procure "B-2" sugar allocated by the Sugar Regulatory
Administration at a price of P950 per LKG starting this week until
the end of March, he said.
B2 represents one half percent of the country's sugar production.
Ibarra disclosed that of the 3,476 metric tons of B2 sugar
valued at P66 million the NFA office in Bacolod will buy 1,411 metric
tons from Negros Occidental.
It will purchase 221 metric tons from the Binalbagan Isabela
Sugar Co., La Carlota - 193 MT, Dacongcogon - 21 MT, First Farmers
- 81 MT, Hawaiian Phils. - 154 MT, Lopez - 174 MT, Sagay - 77 MT,
SONEDCO - 97 MT and Victorias - 393 MT, he said.
NFA will procure consolidated B-2 quedans of planters associations
or cooperatives, Ibarra said.
Sugar planters who are not members of any association or cooperatives
can request the SRA that quedanning of their B-2 sugar be joined
with those of any association or cooperative of their choice in
order that NFA can likewise procure their sugar, he said.*CPG
