Senator Manuel "Mar" Roxas, former Department of Trade and Industry secretary, will be the keynote speaker during the opening ceremonies of the Western Visayas Regional Athletics Association Meet at 2 p.m. tomorrow at the Villareal Stadium in Roxas City, Capiz.

Capiz Vice-governor Victor Tanco will introduce Roxas, who is the chairman of the Committee on Economic Affairs and Committee on Trade and Commerce, at the opening rites.

Philippine Sports Commission chairman William "Butch" Ramirez has also been invited to give a message of encouragement to the student-athletes from Negros, Capiz, Aklan, Antique, Iloilo and Guimaras who will see action in the regional meet.

Sagay motocross
blasts off today

Eleven titles are at stake in the Sinigayan Invitational Motocross Competitions that kicks off today in Sagay City.

The riders from Negros Occidental will tussle for crowns in the pantra, enduro-beginner, enduro-novice, enduro-production, freestyle, expert, beginner-production, novice-production, open-production, executive and first timer divisions.

The top riders in the elimination round that takes centerstage today will advance to the finals set tomorrow, organizers said.

Golf-for-a-Cause
set Saturday

The second leg of the Rotary District Governor's Cup unfolds Saturday at the Negros Occidental Golf and Country Club in Barangay Bata, Bacolod City.

Amateur golfers from all over the Philippines as well as players from the United States and United Kingdom will participate in the two-day event that is also known as the Rotary "Golf for a Cause" Tournament.

The proceeds of the tournament will benefit the Negrenses in the rural areas who avail the annual medical missions of the organizing Rotary Club of Bacolod Marapara, RCBM president Alfredo "Peb" Reyes said.
