Cop-turned-rebel to be
dropped from rolls
BY GILBERT BAYORAN

Policeman-turned rebel SPO2 Joel Geollegue has been recommended dropped from the rolls by Camp Crame for being Absent-Without-Leave, the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group said.

Geollegue, former Oriental Negros CIDG provincial deputy chief, defected to the New People's Army in June last year for having been sentenced by the Himamaylan Regional Trial Court to six years imprisonment for robbery, which was re-affirmed by the Supreme Court, on what he called trumped up charges.

Senior Inspector Germano Mallari, 701st CIDG Oriental Negros chief, who is on-leave, yesterday said he received the order to drop Geollegue, his former deputy, from the roster of troops in January.

Mallari said dropping from the rolls means imminent dismissal from the police service.

Geollegue has sought help for a possible re-opening of his case for robbery for which he was convicted in 1993. Mallari said he has already relayed the intention of Geollegue to come down from the mountains if his case is re-opened, to the CIDG regional office and Senior Supt. Melvin Ramon Buenafe, provincial police director of Oriental Negros.

Before his transfer to Oriental Negros, Geollegue had been also a member of the 601st CIDG provincial office, stationed at Camp Alfredo Montelibano Sr. in Bacolod City.*GPB
