Iloilo City will host the staging of the National Private
Schools and Athletics Association Games next year, an official of
the Western Visayas PRISAA said yesterday.
In a recent meeting at the Iloilo Doctor's College, the Region
VI PRISAA board of directors agreed to give Iloilo the responsibility
of hosting the national school-based meet since Western Visayas
has been tasked to stage the Games, Fr. Emilio Jaruda, president
of the WV PRISAA, said.
Pangasinan hosted the National PRISAA Games for Luzon last
month, while Zamboanga staged the national competitions in behalf
of Mindanao in 2005. The Western Visayas contingent, powered by
its tankers, brought home the overall championship of the National
PRISAA Games for the past two years.
Jaruda, who was the presiding officer of the meeting,
said that the Iloilo PRISAA will take charge in the preparations
of the national tertiary hostilities, adding that the local government
of Iloilo should also be tapped to provide financial assistance
for the sprucing up of the different sports venues and facilities.
The board members of the Region VI PRISAA will also decide
on the proposed schedule of national games soon to be submitted
to the National PRISAA board of directors, he said.
Most probably, the Western Visayas PRISAA officials will propose
to hold the national school-based meet in April next year because
the national competitions has always been staged during the summer
except for this year, he added. Officials from Negros who joined
Jaruda during the meeting were Roger Banzuela, athletic manager
and technical committee chairman of the WV PRISAA, Sally Agtoto
of University of St. La Salle, Rudy Reveche of Colegio de San Agustin-Bacolod,
Jane Vale of Riverside College and Ericson Rios of University of
Negros Occidental-Recoletos.
During the recent national games in Pangasinan, the National PRISAA
board of directors also planned to hold the national meet in the
secondary level to scout for possible athletes in the collegiate
level. *CIT
