Anti-blood clot
capsules introduced

A novel therapeutic supplement from China called "Plasmin" capsule was introduced to the Philippines recently, a press release from its distributors said.

Plasmin contains three clot-dissolving enzymes that work in synergy to dissolve blood clots, the press release said.

It added that clinical studies have proven its benefits in patients with stroke, diabetes and heart disease. It reduces numbness and dizziness, helps in the recovery of sensation and function of the arms and legs, improves breathing and speech, reduces blood pressure and chest pain, reduces blood sugar and cholesterol levels and increases physical energy, the press release also said.

Plasmin has collagenase that can dissolve blood clot, it added.

Being purely natural, Plasmin is also free from side effects and can be safely combined with medications for hypertension, diabetes and heart disease. It is also approved by the Bureau of Food and Drugs and the United States Food and Drug Administration, the press release said.

Adventure
challenge slated in Sipalay

The Western Visayas Caving Association Inc., in cooperation with the city government of Sipalay, Negros Occidental, will hold the "1st Pasaway Adventure Challenge 2006," March 24 to 26, in Sipalay, in line with the 5th Charter Day celebration of the city, a press release from event organizers said yesterday.

Scheduled activities are caving, swimming, river trekking, mountain biking, running (road and trail), rappelling, tyrolean traverse, and special events to test the skills, stamina, and spirit of participating teams.

The competition is multi-disciplinary and will take several days of independent travel, use non-polluting local and traditional means of transport, in the natural remote settings of the outdoors, the press release said.

The first test for adventure racing in Negros was held October 1997 in Mambucal Summer Resort.

Bomb awareness gab held

Several police beat reporters in Bacolod City participated in a whole-day "Bomb Awareness Seminar" at the Bacolod City Police Office headquarters Saturday.

Bacolod bomb expert Denny Montoya, discussed the different types of explosives, physical features of a bomb, ways in handling bomb threats and safety measures in case a suspected bomb was found in an area, and ways in handling explosives safety, among others.

Supt. Edgar Esparagoza, BCPO deputy director, said the seminar will help local media practitioners to report and handle "bomb stories" precisely and accurately. The seminar also reminded the media to observe safety measures in case they respond to scenes where suspected bombs are found ahead of bomb experts or police officers, he said.

USLS prexy gets
honorary doctorate degree

The president of the University of Saint La Salle in Bacolod City, Bro. Augustine Boquer, FSC, was awarded an honorary doctorate degree at the Founder's Day Ceremony Thursday at Saint Mary's University in Minnesota, a press release from the Saint Mary's University of Minnesota said.

Boquer was honored for his dedication to helping others, especially the less fortunate, and in advancing higher education throughout the Philippines, it said. He has linked educational advancement through the USLS with community outreach, it added. Also, under Boquer's leadership, the law center at the university was able to provide free legal services to indigent litigants and legal advocacy to those in need.

Boquer was also cited for the Bahay Pag-Asa Youth Center of USLS which serves as a corrective and transformational facility for convicted youth offenders of Bacolod, and his help to the Bacolod Boys' Home which provides services for abandoned, orphaned and neglected boys in Negros Occidental.

Boquer serves as the regional director of the International Association of Lasallian Universities and is a member of the District Council of the Christian Brothers of the Philippine District.

"Through his capable leadership, visionary perspective and generosity of heart, Brother Gus has been a model of service to humanity," Brother Craig Franz, president of Saint Mary's University, said in the press release.

The Founder's Day is the annual celebration of the founding of Saint Mary's in 1912 by Winona Bishop Patrick Heffron, the press release added.*
