The Negros Oriental 2 Electric Cooperative in Bayawan City will
discuss at its general assembly on Mar. 25 the interest-free loan
offer of the provincial government for the cooperative to update
its system in Dumaguete City.
NORECO 2 sources said the P27 million offer needs to be ratified
and approved by the general membership. It will be used to upgrade
the distribution system in Dumaguete and stabilize the supply for
better service, and thus, entice investors. Stephen Salgado, membership
affairs and information designate of the cooperative, said the assembly
will also discuss plans of acquiring electric transformers amounting
to P12 million.
On questions why the assembly should be in Bayawan City, Salgado
said it was the decision of the Board of Directors.
Meanwhile, Noreco2 has undertaken another round of membership
seminars for new subscribers Thursday.
Most of the participants were from hinterland barangays of
the municipalities from Dauin to San Jose.
The lifeline rate of NORECO 2 is intended for small residential
houses with at least three bulbs or florescent lamps.
Under the scheme, a member who consumes less than 20 megawatts
per month automatically avails of 50 percent discount, Leovigildo
Elmaco, institutional services division chief, said. Elmaco also
said that with the removal of the minimum rates, a consumer pays
only for the amount of electricity he has actually consumed.*JG
