Palanca says BREDCO will protect its rights.*

Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia said he will endorse to the Sangguniang Panlungsod today the recommendation of the city negotiating panel to take over the operation and management of the Bacolod port.

The members of the Bacolod City negotiating panel had recommended the takeover of the port operation and management by the city government after the renegotiation between the city the Bacolod Real Estate Development Corp. failed.

No agreement was reached between the city and BREDCO for the increase in compensation for the management and operation of the port after 60 days of renegotiation from January 4 to March 6. The city proposed the amount of P17.5 million from the present P800,000 annual rental that BREDCO had been paying for more than 10 years now. However, BREDCO wants to pay only P1.4 million a year. moremoremore

Four executive assistants of the Bacolod City government failed to meet the qualification standards set by the Civil Service Commission.

They are Romeo Escalona, Cris Monte, Rudy Yanson and Jonah Abao.

Secretary to the Mayor Roger Balo said he received a letter from the CSC Negros Occidental Friday requiring that executive assistants should be college graduate, have one year relevant experience and should have professional career service eligibility. He said he referred the letter to City Legal Officer for opinion and has already informed the concerned executive assistants about the requirements. moremoremore

Guillem re-elected to Ceneco board
but is Bobby M. eyeing presidency
BY NANETTE GUADALQUIVER

Eddie Guillem, incumbent board president of the Central Negros Electric Cooperative, was reelected as director of District III (Bacolod Central) on Saturday and is seen to face a challenge from prominent businessman-sugar planter Roberto Montelibano, who was elected director of District VII (Murcia), in his quest to retain the CENECO presidency.

Guillem, who defeated Rodolfo Salga and Rene Tan at the voting held at the A. Mabini Elementary School, won a second term that ends in 2009.

He told the DAILY STAR yesterday his reelection shows that he has an overwhelming mandate from CENECO consumers and proves his impressive performance in the last three years. moremoremore
