Export earnings of Negros Occidental totaled $39.493 million in
2005, statistics of the local office of the Department of Trade
and Industry show.
The figures reflect the perfomance summary of both non-traditional
and traditional exports. Non-traditional products include garments,
processed food, aqua/marine, furniture, gifts, toys and houseware,
and metals while traditional, molasses, raw sugar, muscovado sugar
and steel scrap.
Total export earnings in January last year reached $5.201
million; February, $17.663 million; March, $980,451; April, $119,875;
May, $3.262 million; June, $720,687; July, $7.206 million; August,
$2.386 million; September, $878,950; October, $161,788; November,
$548,141; and December, $364,160.
First half export earnings in 2005 totaled $27.947 million.
Of the amount, $4.393 million was posted by traditional exports
while $23.554 million, by non-traditional. Second half figures amounted
$11.545 million, $5.591 million for non-traditional while $5.954,
for traditional.
For traditional, raw sugar posted the highest export earnings
with $24.891 million while for non-traditional, aqua/marine products,
