False text messages
alarming: Ablong
BY JUANCHO GALLARDE

Dumaguete City Vice Mayor William Ablong appealed to telecommunication firms to monitor and trace the senders of what he tagged as "false and alarming" text messages circulating in the city, among them are about the alleged spread of the bird flu virus in Oriental Negros.

Ablong, who admitted he had himself received similar messages, said the senders do not do the community any good.

He said the false message about the bird flu had caused a number of people to stop buying chicken for fear of catching the virus strain.

BY JUANCHO GALLARDE

Hundreds of Dumaguete residents availed of free check-ups and medicines at the medical mission conducted yesterday by the Alliance for Peace and Improvement in coordination with the City Disaster Coordinating Council and the Bureau of Fire Protection, at the Quezon Park, in the city.

Jane Padua Bravo, API vice president and special events director for the Visayas, said the activity is being undertaken all over the country in coordination with local government units.

Helping the doctors were members of a radio group, City Disaster Coordinating Council personnel and operatives of the Bureau of Fire Protection.
