Critics
lambasted
A few days ago, I got an e-mail from Noel Jimenez. He said,
this he got from his friends in the U.S. where he visited recently
and forwarded it to me.
It is 5 pages, single spaced, and in small letters. I would
like to believe it is very widely circulated. It contains just one
theme, a strong diatribe against the political enemies of the President.
It is addressed, "Dear Tita Cory, Senators, Congressmen, Businessmen,
Media People, Leftists, and all the Bleeding Hearts out there."
It is written in first person.
It spared the Bishops in the beginning but towards the end
of the five-page letter it had some choice words for the Bishops.
It is very well written and could have been very believable
if the one who signed it is Ignacio Bunye.

I believe it an obligation to also share it with my readers
as a way of presenting the other side. The whole letter is not only
in defense of everything the President did but also hitting her
perceived political enemies.
It had a very strong opening. "I am angry. And I know there
are many out there who are angrier than I am for the same reason.
"And that reason is simple. I am sick and tired of all you
guys claiming to speak for me and my fellow Filipinos."
He/She added, "I feel like screaming every time you mouth
words about fighting for my freedom and for my rights when you obviously
are just thinking about yours…"
In these five pages they are tirades. No nonsense tirades.

The letter complained that "You want every person to be provided
the right to speak out his mind…. but you do not respect my silence."
It added, "I am utterly flabbergasted that you still do not
get it: we already responded to your calls, and our response has
been very clear: we chose not to heed your call to go to Edsa or
to Fort Bonifacio…"
Very obviously the target is Cory Aquino.
Here's another one, "When I accepted your incompetence and
fought for you during the many attempts against your government,
I already lowered the standard to ridiculous level."
And here's one for the legislators. "Guess what, Senators
and Congressmen, you lowered it yourselves when you ran for office
and won and now make fools of yourselves in the august hall of Congress."

The letter writer asked forgiveness for not being able to
"join your moral pissing contest." It added, you say GMA is the
problem. "I say, we are - all of us is the problem; more to the
point, I think you are a bigger problem than she is."
Then the letter writer took on the Bishops. "Yes, my dear
bishops, I have done what you have told me to do since I was a child,
which you say is the Christian and moral thing to do: forgive."
She, referring to GMA, asked for forgiveness. Cory was forgiven
for her incompetence" but not GMA.
"Spare me the hypocrisy of telling me that you do so for the
sake of protecting the moral fiber of society. The real reason is
because you smell blood and want to go for the kill."
I just picked up a few lines. As I said, five pages of single
spaced small letters of lambast against the critics centering most
on former President Aquino.
I looked for the portion where the letter writer attacked
media because in the greeting, media was included. I have not seen
one line where media is mentioned. Could be the letter is written
by a media person. And against the claim he/she lives abroad because
we are addressed as "you people out there" she lives here when the
letter writer said, he did not attend the gathering at Edsa.
Well, this is a free country where every one is free to
speak out his mind. And we publish both sides.

Yesterday some media groups and ABS-CBN came to interview
me on the statement of the administration that it can stop any broadcast
anytime it wants to do.
That's true. Radio or television has a franchise. And one
of the provisions, I believe, is on seditious broadcasts. And who
decides what is seditious is the government.
Not so with newspapers. The most they can do is threaten.
Just like what it did to the Tribune. But, this made Tribune popular.
I believe its circulation increased by leaps and bounds. Of course,
people want to know the score. And from whom will you get it but
from the source itself.

Today is the election for the directorship of Ceneco in District
3 or Central, District 2 or South, and Murcia.
In District 3 incumbent Ceneco President Ed Guillem is
running for re-election. Against him is Barangay 29 Captain Rudy
Salga. In District 2, it is also well fought while in Murcia Bobby
Montelibano is unopposed.
This used to be the district of now Murcia Vice-Mayor Lino
Santiago.
I am supporting Ed Guillem and I hope, with the endorsement
of Mayor Bing Leonardia the other day he has a bigger edge. But,
in future elections I hope we give Rudy Salga a chance.
Happy birthday greetings to Dr. Tony Sarabia. He celebrated it
last night. At my interview last night with the Mayor's secretary
Roger Balo and Bredco spokesman Jack Maalat was fruitful. We got
16 phone calls participating.*
