The National Transmission Corp. said that the construction
works for the submarine cable component of the Cebu-Negros Interconnection
Uprating Project has already started last month and its completion
is expected in June next year.
TransCo said in its Feburary report that the project,
aimed to increase the carrying capacity of an existing submarine
cable from 100 to 200 megawatts, will also commence ground works
for the transmission line and substation components in April and
will complete construction on November 2007.
The report also said that the Negros-Panay Interconnection
Uprating Project, which will double the capacity of the existing
line to 200 megawatts, will be awarded to the winning contractor
this June. Its target completion is first quarter of 2008.

Alijis eyeing takeover of
unused southbound terminal
The Barangay Alijis Council is proposing to take
over the operation of the facilities of the South terminal and
market which has remained a white elephant for several years.
Bacolod City Administrator Lorendo Dilag yesterday
said that Alijis Barangay Captain Pepito Malapitan wrote him about
the proposal and he has endorsed the letter to the City Legal
Office for opinion.
He said Malapitan has proposed the transfer of
the "bagsakan" of vegetables and fruits at the Libertad Market
to the Southbound terminal and market in Brgy. Alijis. The president
of the Libertad Market Vendor's Association, Efren Mangalos, is
in favor of the idea because it will help decongest traffic at
the Libertad Market, he said.
